Law & Order: Special Victims Unit can be interesting while one is knitting, but the formula it often uses makes it too predictable--close to the ending, the perpetrator in each episode launches into a long-winded, Tennessee Williams monologue as the camera moves into extreme close-ups. I suppose the performers themselves consider these as opportunities to showcase their talent, although, most of time, they verge on over-acting. The formula, you see, typically works for theater but not for television.
