The Manchurian Candidate is being replayed once again on HBO. I saw it on the big screen when it opened years ago, and I enjoyed it. It is a moviefied, airplane novel, the type that is two inches thick and should cover you for a long flight.
On the downside:
--The title is forgettable.
--You can tell that the director imposed on his performers what to do and how to do it, all in the service of shot composition, a method that does not allow the performers to act out of their personal truth.
