Lady Christine, Part 2
We sat round the vigil candle on overturned chalet waste baskets that we found in the laundry area. I placed myself with my back turned to the statue so that it was always in full view of Carlo and Marvin.
There was no breeze, but the vigil candle sputtered and the flame went out, usually an indication that the entity we were about to communicate with was not human.
I waited, wondering whether Carlo, Marvin, or I would be the channel on this quest. It was Carlo, whose training included overnight quests in cemeteries and on church compounds.
"Lady Christine" introduced herself as "likhang-isip". Carlo sensed that "Lady Christine" was the name of a ship and not of a human being. "She" agreed that we should revise "her" statue with a sculpted drape on, i.e. minus the nudity, and that "she" wanted to be relocated on the shore, looking out onto the sea.
I asked whether the other entities on the island were "good" or "not good". "Lady Christine" replied that there are both, as there are both, indeed, anywhere else on this planet. "She" advised the current managers of the island to persist in working hard, to respect one another, and to disengage from backbiting and petty social intrigues.
At the end of the quest "Lady Christine" gave personal messages to Carlo, Marvin, and me, after which we thanked "her" for accommodating us.
We talked about body signals on our way back from the motor pool. I taught Marvin how to ground himself; he was working overtime that night through 10:00 PM because there were five guests on the island.
A postscript to this adventure and most un-ghost-like "ghost" story: Carlo and I were unusually thirsty that night; I myself consumed three full liters of mineral water before drifting off to sleep. Carlo and Francis, who did not join the quest, were unable to sleep the entire night. Marvin and I, on the other hand, slept soundly and well.
