Upon waking, do not rise immediately. Attune to three senses in the following sequence:

1) Touch: Be aware of your body. Stretch slowly. Make gentle movements with your hands and your feet.
2) Sight: Surround yourself with pleasant and meaningful objects.
3) Sound: Turn on soft music. If you decide to tune in to the local news on TV, ensure that the sound is barely audible, because there will be a lot of unnecessary yelling, screeching, griping, arguing, hawking, singing, shameless self-promotion, vending, clowning, and cackling, which are very abrasive to the soul.

It is a bad idea to wake up to an alarm clock, unless you have to. Waking up to a jolt stunts mental growth. This is why soldiers become psychologically unhealthy, all in the name of discipline.

God created a gentle sunset and a gentle sunrise.
